No Rules November - Week 1

It’s time for the very first No Rules November check-in!

(Confused? For the whole month of November, I’m breaking a fashion rule everyday. In my past year of experimenting, I’ve found that when I’m riskier and more honest with my outfits, I’m riskier and more honest in my life, too. So, for 30 days, I’m breaking rules and seeing where it takes me! To read more about it, check out my initial No Rules November post here.)

November started on Thursday, so this Sunday check-in will be brief. Here are my rule-breaking outfits, so far!

Day 1

BROKEN RULE: Never wear anything too girlish.

I often stay away from this cardigan because it feels too prim. I wore it as a shirt here (instead of as a layer on top of something else) and ooh la la! It felt far more grown-up.

day 2

BROKEN RULE(S):

  1. Never wear socks and sandals

  2. Heels are too much, this is Seattle after all.

I bought these heeled sandals a few months ago, but in the rush of wedding preparations (and the wedding!) I rarely got a chance to wear them. I’d never worn tights with heeled sandals before, but really liked the end result.

Have you tried the tights/sandals combo? I’m curious to hear what you think of it!

Day 3

BROKEN RULE: Black is always best.

I’ll be honest, I phoned it in a little bit with this outfit. It was cold and rainy, and I didn’t want to leave the house. (I think you can tell from my facial expression.) I still broke one of my personal rules, but I won’t be winning any style awards for that outfit.

Now it’s your turn! Have you been participating in No Rules November? How’s the experience been for you so far? Have you had any roadblocks? Any realizations?

If you’re intrigued by this idea, but not sure where to start, there’s a guide for that! Sign up below to get my tips on building your own rule-breaking fashion experiment. The guide breaks down the process of defining your specific fashion rules, and the steps to break them.

And finally, don’t forget to share! I’d love to see (and share!) your rule-breaking outfits. On Instagram, you can tag me in your photos (I’m @costumeparade) or use the hashtags #norulesnovember or #cprulebreakers. If email is more your style, you can me reach me at costumeparade@gmail.com.

I’ll be back on Wednesday with a surprise! Happy rule-breaking!
