Bright, Shiny, and Bordering on Tacky (But in a Fashion Way) - A Shopping Guide

I’m not a practical shopper.

If anything, I’m more of a magpie.

I enter a clothing store, and am immediately pulled to anything shiny, sparkly, loud, heavily patterned, or covered in fringe. I do not excel at basics. (I buy most of those online so I don’t have to endure the drudgery of trying them on in a fitting room. And, even then, it still feels so, so, so, so, SO boring.)

Because of this, my wardrobe is filled with a lot of loud, not very practical, pieces. If you’d ask any so-called shopping expert, they’d say I’m doing it all wrong.

I’ve tried to do better. I’ve throughly planned my seasonal wardrobes. I’ve made Pinterest boards, followed by shopping lists of specific pieces (and, ugh, basics).

But, inevitably, once inside a store, my inner magpie takes over, its eyes wide with excitement, its wings draped in anything bright and shiny and bordering on tacky, but in a fashion way. Then, I head home, having purchased 14 pairs of corgi socks and one bright yellow, high-necked dress, that might look nice if we are to ever attend an outdoor event where it’s not too hot and not too cold and not too casual. (Mind you, I still live in Seattle. Perfect weather rarely happens and everyone and every event is quite casual.)

Anyway.

I like being a magpie. I shouldn’t. (Apparently.) But, I do.

If you’re feeling like embracing your inner magpie, I’ve collected a big pile of pieces that are a little wild, a little offbeat, and a little quirky. Please, let me know which ones are your favorites!

What kind of shopper are you? Which styles and pieces are you eyeing for fall?
