Stitch Fix Review - December 2019

Title.jpg

Hello Fellow Stitch Fixers!

It’s been a hot minute, but I’m back, back, back with another Stitch Fix Review!

Since my last review, I’ve gotten a new stylist (that I love!), some fun brown pants (I do realize that “fun” and “brown pants” seems like an oxymoron) and have become exasperated with sweaters. Are all sweaters unflattering? What are your sweater-wearing tricks? Lately, all sweaters just make me look like Violet Beauregarde, but instead of a blueberry, I’m blowing up into a giant ball of yarn.

In today’s Fix, my complicated relationship with sweaters continues. Also, I have another new stylist, though I asked to keep the last one. Perplexing. Have you had this happen to you?

(Confused about Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fix is a personal stylist subscription box service. How does it work? On their website, you begin by filling out a questionnaire. It covers everything from your size, to style preferences, to preferred colors, patterns and shapes. Then, a stylist chooses 5 items for you, and they're shipped to your front door. You're only charged for what you keep, and the $20 styling fee goes toward whatever you purchase.

Let’s get to it!

ITEM: JOA Farna Crewneck Pullover

THOUGHTS: I liked this when I put it on. It’s heavy enough to be cozy, but not so heavy to be obnoxious. I liked the geometric design and it isn’t itchy.

Then I saw these pictures, where it appears that this sweater is slowly eating me, and now I’m less convinced. How do you feel about this sweater? Should I keep it or pitch it back?

VERDICT: Please, help me decide!

Today I learned that this is the face I make right before I sneeze.

ITEM: VINCE Turtleneck Ribbed Top

THOUGHTS: There’s nothing wrong with this top. It’s nice enough quality. I wish it were shorter, but I can’t blame it for my height. It’s just fine, fine and unoffensive. And because of its fine-ness, its general lack of pizazz, I’m just not excited about it. So, back it goes.

VERDICT: Return

ITEM: SPLENDID Leo Crewneck Sweater

THOUGHTS: Why, why, why do all sweaters lately have droopy shoulder seams?

As a person with minimal shoulders, a low shoulder seam makes me look like I’m rapidly melting. Why is it so hard to find a sweater with a decent shoulder?! (And no, the turtleneck above does not count! That’s not a sweater!) (And yes, I do realize that the first sweater has droopy shoulders, too.)

Rant aside, this sweater was fun. It’s reversible. It’s cozy. But man, with that thick band on the bottom and that shoulder seam, it’s not a winner on me.

VERDICT: Return

ITEM: NATURALIZER Veruna Lace Up Hiker Boot

THOUGHTS: I love these!!

With my wonky ankle, I love a good lace up boot. They offer just the right amount of support to keep my ankle in place.

This pair, in particular, is extra fancy. These boots are waterproof, have great traction, and a heat-retaining sock liner. Ooh la la! Most importantly, they’re also super comfy.

I’m excited to pair these with flowy dresses and skirts!

VERDICT: Kept!

ITEM: JOE’S JEANS Callie High Rise Corduroy Crop Bootcut Jean

THOUGHTS: I was perplexed by these pants.

In my last fix, I kept a pair of wide-leg, cropped, tobacco-brown pants. (I missed a Fix Review for those, but you can see them here.)

Why would I need another pair? How many pairs of brown, cropped pants does one person need? In my Fix note, my stylist said they were different than the other pair. They are corduroy, so perhaps that’s the big difference? They have no stretch to them, and I couldn’t get them up past my thighs, so I guess we’ll never know!

VERDICT: Return
