A Trip to Costco, But Make it Fashion

I’ve been in a funk. (Again.)

I’m blaming it on the weather. Seattle’s weather has been atrocious. It’s been cold, rainy, windy, cloudy, yet somehow very humid, and I am entirely, entirely over it.

Yesterday, I was particularly cranky. I was having a nothing-goes-my-way day. I dropped about 14 different things. I was drowning in allergies. My plan for this blog post didn’t work, nor did the backup, nor did the backup’s backup.

And, of course, it was cloudy.

By afternoon, I grew bored of my moping. I hatched a plan to use fashion to turn my day around.

I told my husband I’d be meeting him for his post-work run to Costco. I put on makeup, coated my hair in dry shampoo, and pulled on a silky, green wrap dress. It was far, far, too much for Costco but I felt fantastic in it.

Then, the sun came out of the clouds! Coincidence? Probably, but it felt rather cinematic. I walked to the train station with the sun on my face. The skirt of my dress danced in the breeze. Inside Costco, everything felt a bit thrilling.

Turning a typically mundane task into a fancy outing really did turn my day around. My plan worked! It’s pouring rain again today, but my mood is still buoyed from yesterday. Have you worn a fancy outfit to accomplish a casual chore? I’d love to hear about (or see!) your fancy-for-day experiences!
